Skater finishes 9th overall at World Allround Championships

Shane Dobbin has finished a creditable 9th place at the World Allround Long Track Ice Speed Skating Championships over the weekend. The former world inline roller marathon champion and Winter Olympian who switched to ice 2 seasons ago broke 3 NZ records. Dobbin broke his own national record in the 5000m to finish 5th in a time of 6:15:69. He then went one better to finish 4th in the 10000m with a time of 13:06:17 which smashed 10 seconds off his previous personal best. Dobbin also took over a second off his 1500m to record a time of 1:46:61. His combined times which also included a 500m gave him a points total of 150.003, yet another national record.

Dobbin now heads to Salt Lake City to compete in a World Cup 10000m next weekend. Dobbin finished 4th in the 10000m at his last World Cup in Hamar Norway.
